Filling the creative well – what inspires you? (books)

I don’t know about you but I find reading about what inspires other people, well, rather inspiring.

Here is a glimpse into what is on the reading list, playlist and more from some of my favourite visual artists and crafty folk who I’ve been speaking with lately.

Books that are on your horizon to read this year?

Nancy Lautenbach: ‘Gestures’

Nancy: I’ve been reading a lot by Peter Levine and Bessel VanderKolk’s The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma to provide insight into how the body holds trauma and pain and through somatic experiencing (SE).

I’m interested in how we can learn to work with this using movement and focusing. My work with the 365 Body Project led me to SE and I have been exploring how the body and mind are impacted through movement and incorporating this into my practice.

I also read a lot of Brene Brown’s work – currently Daring Greatly, because I find I resonate with her insights.

Gretchen: Lisa Mitchell is a Californian based art therapist, she does Inner Canvas, she has a book coming out this year that I’m really excited about. Its around creativity and using creativity as a co-therapist. She’s a great writer and she does blog postings as well I’m kind of excited to see the content all come together.
